Soils Investigation

Chapter 2

In the evaluation of an area for construction of buildings or other structures, or as a source of construction material, the soil conditions must be investigated before any detailed designs are made.  A soils investigation involves field sampling and testing, laboratory analysis, and preparation of a report.  The planning and evaluation of the field work are aided by a knowledge of the mechanics of soil deposits’ formation. The following topics will be covered; Soil Deposits, Field Investigation Techniques, Laboratory Testing, and Soils Reports.
