Analysis of Structures Lecture Notes

Chapter 4

A structure is a connected system of members designed to support loads and transfer forces.  To analysis structures we will look at the equilibrium of an entire structure, part of a structure, or an individual member.  This will included finding the external reactions as well as the internal forces.  Internal forces are defined as the forces required to hold the structure together. Topics to be covered include; External and Internal Forces in a Structure, Trusses, Method of Joints, Zero-Force Members, Method of Sections, Frames, and Machines.
