Mechanical Properties of Materials Lecture Notes

Chapter 11

Testing of materials will produce tress-strain diagrams that can be further examine to determine important properties of materials, including modulus of elasticity, yield and ultimate strengths  stiffness, elastic and plastic behavior, ductility, and others. Topics to be covered include; The Tension Test, The Stress-Strain Diagram, Mechanical Properties of Materials, The Compressin Test, Allowable Stresses and Factor of Safety, Stress Concentrations, and Elastic Design Versus Plastic Design.
