Chapter 10
Structural materials deform under the action of forces. This includes increasing of length- elongation, decrease in length – contraction, and change in shape – angular distortion. Deformation per unit length is called linear strain. Topics to be covered include; Linear Strain, Hooke’s Law, Axial Deformation, Statically Indeterminate Problems, Thermal Stresses, Poisson’s Ratio, and Shear Strain.
